Julio Bashmore - Riff Wrath EP

As House music goes Julio Bashmore has had a fairly fruitful year which has ultimately seen his star rise right to the top of the tree just in time for christmas this year, conveniant that?

With a smash of a debut release in the form of club-house destroyer "Battle for Middle You" the Bristolian groover has quite simply gone from strength to strength, releasing two brilliant EP's and an equally heavy-duty Essential Mix on BBC Radio 1 back in August (if that past you by the first time, make sure if doesnt again) there's really not much in the way of negativity we can point towards the guy.

Since his emergence into the club scene in the latter stages of 2009, Label Supremo's like Night Slugs, Ten Thousand Yen, PTN, Dirtybird and Fabric were quick to latch on to the quality, soft-felt productions he was steadily bringing forth. In fact its when you go through the beatmakers back catalogue you begin to realise just how soulful and emotive his releases have consistantly been, with the smooth "Craboon" off the Father Father 12" right through to his latest and equally dreamy offering, the double-edged Riff Wrath EP.

Sticking with the tried-and-tested formulae that has brought Julio so much love of late, the EP is comprised of two euphoric productions from that old skool Chicago House mould that's as heart-felt as it is dancefloor-friendly.

The A-Side "Ensnare" is a trophy example as to why House has experienced a reawakening over the past year, with a classic (if somewhat unrecognisable) sample from The Real Thing's "You Are My Everything" its a blissed-out, sophisticated number that'll have club-hedonists two-stepping for its near eight minute duration. Big winter vibes.

AA-Side "Well Wishers" elects to incorporate escapist synths and pacy drums alognside some christmassy bells which for the second entry aims to mellow the levels down a touch but possesses an equally vintage vibe that should keep head's bopping at any party over the Winter period.

This 12 inch is due for Release off the up and coming Bristol based label Futureboogie Recordings on December 19th. Be a dude and support the cause.

Catching up with Ghostpoet // 9th November

As 2011 hastily reaches its climax there are a number of musicians who will look back on this year fondly. Adele selfishly swooped every award available, Rihanna released a new record every week and Justin Bieber almost became a father for the first time but away from the merky depths of the mainstream chart one artist who had a whirlwind year in his own right was South London Lyricist Ghostpoet.

In 11 short months Obaro Ejimiwe has earned praise and gained notoriety after releasing the Mercury nominated debut 'Peanut Butter Blues & Melancholy Jam' and having toured the UK and Europe relentlessly, Ghostpoet has rightfully earned every accolade that has fallen his way.

His sound deftly manages to blur the lines between a myriad of genre's, with a bluesy tone and predominantly electronic production that still manages to encompass the foundations of UK hip-hop within it's lyricism. It's difficult to pinpoint exactly where Ghostpoet fits musically, and it was back in January when we first published a piece on the brilliant debut single 'Case & Carry Me Home' off his first major release.

Yet in the midst of embarking on another tour, we were lucky enough to catch up with the man himself on his visit to Reading's Sub89 as he talked us through life on the road with Jamie Woon and Metronomy, his relationship with Mike Skinner, the necessities of Rum, Jools Holland, recent TV sensation Top Boy and his unparalelled dedication to Cadbury's Chocolate.

The Mercury Nominated 'Peanut Butter Blues and Melancholy Jam' is out on Brownswood now. If you've not yet associated yourself with it we highly recommend you give it a try.

Emeli Sandé - Daddy (Disclosure Remix)

Its undeniable there are a clutch of beat makers pushing the boundaries right now within the confinements of Electronica. Mammoth, intense, marauding and in many instances haunting EP's and tracks have graced our ears over the past few months and one collective confidently going about their business is the youngest duo out there right now, otherwise known as Disclosure.

Whilst most producers have to slog it out during those early years, usually locking themselves in their bedrooms before steadily beginning to make a breakthrough a few years down the line, Guy (20) and Howard (17, yes 17!) are brothers from Surrey who have been producing music under the alias Disclosure for just under two years and are now touring with the queen of Radio 1 miss Annie Mac. Its a success story anyone would be proud of and judging by the quality of material being released all the success is richly deserved.

After giving away a brilliantly innovative, garage & house focused EP over their facebook page earlier this summer, the collective have now dropped their latest refix, a deep house, club-orientated spin on Scottish Soul artist's Emeli Sandé's rather solemn offering "Daddy". Sande's distinctive, powerhouse vocals take a step back on this remix and are stripped down in favour of spectral wooshes, hisses and masterful off-beat synth's that just about defines why the UK Club scene is thriving right now. Offering's like this are designed quite simply to get booties wiggling, and we're not one to complain when people want to start a full-blooded shakedown in the name of booty wiggling.

Disclosure are currently focusing on bringing out original material over the next few months so look out for more quality releases largely throughout 2012. Really looking forward to seeing what drops next from these guys.

Emeli Sande’s Daddy Remix EP is set to drop 27th November, with remixes from Fred V & Grafix, Disclosure, Third Party, Cyantific and the brilliant Ifan Dafydd, you can pre-order it via iTunes as of now.

Boiler Room #70 with Oneman & Asbo

So cult clubnight the Boiler Room has evolved somewhat since its inception over a year ago now, with everyone from Jamie XX, Yasmin, SBTRKT, Jessie Ware and just about anyone whose made a name for themselves over recent months all passing through for their glorified minutes of fame. As an online phenomenon which recieves love from all angles of the globe, its not always about consistantly moving forward but rejoicing in those classic sessions with the DJ's who have, to date, gone down proudly in the Boiler Room hall of fame.

Although Boiler Room is now 70-odd sessions deep there is one man who repeatedly comes back and brings Corsica to it's knees every single time, and for dedicated subscribers you'll know him as South London's very own DJ Oneman. For anyone whos witnessed this guy in motion you will be hard pressed to find anyone who mixes it up in quite the same way - grime, house, funky, jungle, hip-hop, you name it, the dude will spin it.

This time out Oneman and his long-serving hype connoisseur Asbo opted to showcase the unfamiliar flavours of Old Skool US Hip-Hop and R&B, opting to blend everything from Mya, Kelis, Bobby Valentino & Soul for Real through the beginning phase of his set. For regular Boiler heads the Londoner does bring it back to more familiar territory with dosages of Hudson Mohawke & Dark Sky later recieving a welcome spin-out, overall however its a 45 minute mix of classic proportions.

A setlist that would turn any civil hangout into a party, if Oneman continues to take the fine art of deejaying to another level and persistantly produce set's of such diversity and unpredictability, it may just be about granting the dude some sort of residency. If it ever was to happen there would be no one better.

You can stream the set in all its glory below.
