Azealia Banks - Liquorice [VIDEO]
Its been a busy few weeks for young Harlem rapper/singer Azealia Banks, not long back we were treated to the brilliantly unique production from Hudson Mohawke on 'Jumanji', and only this week Miss Banks fed her fans some further material in anticipation for her debut album with the bubbling, slow-moving 'Aquababe'.
It appears nothing can stop the 21 year old right now, with her latest video having just dropped for the breakbeat styled 'Liquorice' off the excellent 1991 EP. Coming as a slight suprise that 'Liquorice' was to be the next major release following '212', the visuals see Azealia caught up in a futuristic western/cow-girl world. For the most part the MC wanders around a town
from the Old West in a variety of outfits, though she somehow manages to get
in a shootout with herself towards its climax. Some Tarantino-esque stuff.
Styled by fashion pal Nicola Formichetti and directed by Rankin, it's definitely one of the more entertaining video's we've seen in a long while, and with Nottingham producer 'Lone' supplying the beat its great to see credible electronic music making its way into mainstream.
With the much anticipated debut album Broke With Expensive Taste due out in September, there were worries Banks wouldnt have been able to surpass the quality of
'212' but if her recent work is to go by, we shouldnt have worried.
The
1991 EP is out now on interscope.
