Soundcrash Presents 'The Hip Hop Show Of The Decade'

So a little while back this popped up on the Internet.

Soundcrash are calling it ‘The Hip Hop Show of the Decade’ and they may just be right (Ok it’s not Watch The Throne and If it was up to me I would add Blu to the lineup but this is all objective.)

Look at it; DOOM, Madlib, J Rocc, Dels, Jehst… these are amazing artists all in once place.
A seriously weighty lineup and good to see Dels and Jehst repping the UK hip-hop scene, hopefully Dels will play some new material as he has been tweeting about a new EP coming out soon.

Apart from the actual night itself the other brilliant thing about this poster appearing is that it has got me listening to DOOM again and I’m so glad I have, here is why.

ATB’s Reasons Why DOOM is an Otherworldly Genius

  • First off, if you are new to DOOM you are going to notice the mask. He wears a mask. But he wears a mask and like SBTRKT manages not to look like a dickhead (or like Slipknot).

  • He created a concept album with Danger Mouse that was focused around Adult Swim’s Aqua Team Hunger Force and it manages to tie in cartoon character cameos and blistering beats to create a sublime alternative Hip-Hop album.  DOOM’s lyrics are second to none and The Mouse And The Mask highlights his clever quips and humors one liners, ‘And we'll be right back after these messages. Fellas grab your nutsacs, chicks squeeze your breastesses’ being a personal favourite.  To choose a favourite track from the album is hard so I’ll suggest Old School Feat. Talib kweli. But also listen to Benzie Box, Space Ho’s  and the Danger Mouse remix of Sofa King

  • His track on Gorillaz album Demon Days – November has Come is one of the best on the album. Which is a bold claim, seeing as the album features artists such as De La Soul and Roots Manuva. But his tone fits perfectly with Albarn’s down beat vocals.

  •  Seeing as he is also playing,  Madlib and DOOM have also collaborated on an album entitled Madvillainy. Which is a blinding and surprising album, Madlib providing beats sampling from multiple genres and DOOM yet again showing off his trademark flow. We can only hope the two will perform together on the night.
  • DOOM always provides something new to the Hip-Hop game, unpredictable and different from anything out there. Drake and Lil Wayne fans need not apply DOOM’s music isn’t for the radio its deep and experimental.
