Jacob Plant is the producer responsible for Fly Eye Records’ biggest non-Calvin Harris release ever called ‘All Night‘. His releases have been championed by key tastemakers including Pete Tong, Greg James, Zane Lowe, Mista Jam and Danny Howard for his unique brand of futuristic sound-sculpting.
With commissioned remixes for the likes of Rihanna, Calvin Harris, Tinie Tempah and Example under his belt, Plant’s productions have catapulted across international airwaves and allowed him to perform in front of thousands at Lollapalooza, Reading & Leeds, and Wireless Festival.
Jacob has just released his feel good new tune Eastside with Soren Bryce, so we decided to catch up with him to find out what it’s about and what he’s been up to lately.
Hey Jacob, where in the world are you at the moment?
Hey, I’m currently in Miami for Miami Music Week/Ultra Festival!
You recently moved to LA, how are you finding it?
Yeah I moved last year. It was quite stressful moving at first but now I’m settled in and I love it here. It’s a very inspiring place and full of creative people.
We’re loving your new single ‘Eastside’ can you tell us about it?
Thank you! Yeah I’m really pleased with this single, it’s one of my favourite songs that I have released to date. It’s a bit different to the other music I have put out in the past. The song is slightly slower than my usual tempo and has more of a traditional song structure. I really wanted to put this out to show a different side of what I can do.
How did your collaboration with Soren Bryce come about?
It was set up by my manager. We never actually went in the studio together, the song was done remotely with me in LA and Soren in New York. It’s quite a weird way of working and sometimes that process doesn’t work, but I feel like this song turned out just right.
Do you have any other release plans/exciting collaborations you can tell us?
I’m really excited about the next release. It has a really exciting vocalist on it who sounds amazing! I think we might drop a few club songs for the summer this year too so there’s lots to come!
Who are your biggest influences musically?
I get influenced by so much music. Dance, Rock, Rap etc… I’m loving some new House & Tech House records at the moment, there’s some great songs out. I’ve also been loving old Basement Jaxx albums, I’ve been getting some inspiration from them.
You’ve previously done remixes for massive names such as Tinie Tempah and Example. What’s been your favourite remix you’ve ever done?
My favourite remix I have done so far is, ‘Calvin Harris – Blame’. I had a lot of fun making that and it still goes off at shows. It’s got over 6.4 million streams on Spotify which is cool.
What are 3 facts fans may not know about you?
- I love to cook, I think I’m nearly as passionate about food as I am about music now.
- I have a growing obsession with rock climbing. I did a lot of indoor climbing in UK but now I’m in California I want to try some outdoor climbs and Yosemite.
- My childhood dream was to be a guitarist in a band like Linkin Park. I can safely say I failed doing that but I still ended up doing music!
