After we brought to you the fascinating work of Oscuro, we now present his fellow Pegdoll label mate, Himalia. With his capability to manipulate a multitude of instruments, leading him to be part of bands in his younger years, Himilia has transferred his talents across to the electronic music scene, making for an extensive and resonant ambiance to his arrangements.
Calling on all his vast array of influences, the Lincoln raised producer is able to create a variation of sounds when putting together his production, ranging from the laid back atmospheric description, to the more upbeat, 2-step driven progression. This ability, similar to notable artists such as SBTRKT, is cause for a lot of excitement as Himalia progresses toward the release of his next project ‘Distances’ that will be available from March 30th, 2015.
The lead single from the above-mentioned album is ‘Kingdom’, which features vocals from Sakima (also part of the Pegdoll label), whose performance combines with Himalia’s eerie soundscape beautifully, making for a captivating listen. Despite its relatively slow tempo, the track doesn’t become tiresome as Himalia constructs a way for the production to keep moving forward through the use of a deep bass line and fluorescent hi-hats, further assisted by Sakima’s seamless verbal alterations that fuse with the track, aiding it’s flow.
The follow up single has Himalia creating a cinematic feel with his production on ‘So Long Ago’, which has been described as, “electronic soul at it’s best”. It provides a tense, scene-setting backdrop due to its hazy baseline and spacy woodblock supported snare.
The album is made up of 10 songs, giving Himalia the space to demonstrate the full range of his abilities of storytelling through his music, with help from a small selection of vocalists. The laidback backbone of the album’s style, supported by thrusts of upbeat energy dotted throughout, makes for a solid balance. With the project being the first official release on the Pegdoll label, Himalia is looking to set the tone in inspiring fashion.
Himalia’s ‘Distances’ album will be available from the March 30th, 2015. You can pre-order it via iTunes here.
