To coincide with the release of his excellent new EP, the MTA recording artist lays down a dancefloor-driven set of grooves.
By all accounts AboutToBlow’s first encounter with producer Ossie has been a long time coming. Having first caught our attention with the release of the distinctly tribal-sounding ‘Tarantula’ back in 2011 the East Londoner stormed on to the scene with a series of infectious releases that spanned the UK Funky & House scenes to excellent effect, and quite frankly we’ve been hooked to his signature Funky sound ever since.
After wasting little time in laying down a marker in instinctive, authentic percussion through a series of classics that included sleeper hit ‘Set The Tone’, ‘Ignore‘ not forgetting the deep & downright sexy ‘Supercali‘ the crossover House specialist has also shown off his versatility as 1/3 of the eminent Black Orange Juice, eliciting a distinct style of R&B & Disco-influenced Chicago House.
Having consistently set the benchmark through a procession of releases on Hyperdub, Lightworks, 20:20 Vision & WOLF amongst others, Ossie has just unleashed his newest African-influenced EP ‘Cape Town Is Calling‘ via the ever-reliable MTA Records. Also featuring the B-side ‘Alva Flex’, it’s another fine offering that successfully treads ground between foot-stomping tribal basslines and grooving rhythmic percussion that reminiscent of Funky House at its uncompromising best.
With radio support and acclaim coming from all corners for what is another solid offering we thought what better time to celebrate the release with the invitation to contribute a session for our Guest Mix Series. Suffice to say it’ll be no surprise to regular followers that what the London resident has turned in is nothing less than 50 minutes of solid, tasteful house that’s guaranteed to get your head- and feet – bopping in equal measure. Rather like his recent Boiler Room set for Deviation, it’s a trademark mix that waste’s no time in getting going as it explores multiple ways to work the dancefloor through strands of House, Bass & Techno. Blended seamlessly, this ones suitable for any party situation. Indulge below.
