New on our radar is north London vocalist and songwriter LOLÉ, who’s dropped this beautiful debut single. With an image and vocal style influenced by Sade, it’s easy to get quickly enamered by her intimate and heart bearing delivery. Having had some previous success earlier this year, featuring on a couple of house tunes, ‘Thoughts Of Us’ is her first solo release and is a great sign of what’s to come from the flourishing artists. The track glides with a lazy summer night 80s feel, supplied by producer Danny George and showcases a spellbinding honey-soaked vocal performance. Tackling the subject of a one way relationship and navigating a way out of such a situation, LOLÉ explains:
“Thoughts Of Us is about a one way relationship, it’s that moment everyone has where they give their soul into something/someone that clearly isn’t meant to be – leaving you with clouded minds and raw feelings. Until someone fresh comes along and clears your vision”
Previous collabs include features on the Annie Mac FreeMusicMonday choice ‘Wonder Why’ from London house producer Aprés (which garnered radio play with BBC Radio 1 and Capital Xtra) and on Subsoul affiliate Joey Mccrilley’s ‘Losing Sleep’ (on Bambusa Records), with both tracks serving as early indicators of the RnB songstress’ fluid approach to vocals.
