After an emotional farewell in 2015 after 28 years of renowned house and disco parties, the sadly defunct Southport Weekender has surprised us with a comeback, migrating south to the capital city on Saturday 10th of June for a one-day festival in North London’s Finsbury Park. Renowned for drawing in such a friendly, passionate crowd, the Southport Weekender Festival organisers are music connoisseurs who have a wealth of experience in creating soulful music events with atmospheres like no other.
Expertly curated, there will be 8 different stages to suit every dance aficionado’s tastes, with an eclectic mix of house, disco, garage, hip-hop, techno and everything in between. Among the genre pioneers, there will be a blend of local talent and ones to watch. Kerri Chandler, Tony Humphries, Derrick Carter and DJ Jazzy Jeff are just a handful of big names from across the Atlantic. But there’s also plenty of local talent to fit the bill, including Joey Negro, Ronnie Herel and Dan Shake. Osunlade will also be back in attendance for the London debut (who you might remember we interviewed only a few years ago now) discussing Southport’s role in pioneering soul music on British soil over the years.
Southport Weekender Festival is a must for every house head who loves soulful music and wants a taste of the renowned dance culture movement that put itself firmly on the map. With event expertise that dates back to the 80s, you know that you’ll be in good hands. So welcome back, Southport Weekender! We missed you.
The last few tickets are available to buy here at final release, so don’t miss out.
