About To Blow’s ‘Albums of 2013’

By AboutToBlow @AboutToBlowBlog · On December 13, 2013

The year is coming to a close and we at AboutToBlow have decided to look back on a great year of music.

To sum up 2013:

-       There is some great electronic music being made; labels such as Hyperdub are doing some amazing things and we have awarded their artists with multiple spots on our ‘Top 50 albums’ list.

-       The shock factor is still relevant in the world of music. Miley Cyrus leads the way on this front; we’ve seen her twerk, ride a wrecking ball and do all sorts of unholy things.

-       Kanye West is a moron.

-       Gangster rap is still cool. Chief Keef has been smoking weed and shooting guns on probation; he, as well as other rappers such as Gucci, are continually being incarcerated, whilst those on the outside are glorifying trappin’ (thanks A$AP Ferg).

Without further ado, here are the best albums of the year:

These were okay:

50. The Weeknd – Kissland

49. Lady Gaga – Art Pop

48. Major Lazer – Free the Universe

47. Bastille – Bad Blood

46. King Krule – 6 Feet Beneath the Moon

45. Golden Suits – Golden Suits

44. MØ – Bikini Daze

43. David Lynch – The Big Dream

42. Kid Cudi – Indicud

41. Mac Miller – Watching Movies with the Sound Off

These albums were better:

40. The Internet – Feel Good

39. Miley Cyrus – Bangerz

38. J Cole – Born Sinner

37. Jay Z – Magna Carter/ Holy Grail

36. MellowHigh – Mellow High

35. Snoop Lion – Reincarnated

34. Wiley – The Ascent

33. London Grammar – If You Wait

32. Bonobo – The North Borders

31. Gold Panda – Half of Where You Live

Here is a collection of great records that stayed out of the mainstream charts:

30. Egyptrixxx – a/b Til Infinity

29. Terror Danjah & Champion – Sons of Anarchy

28. FaltyDL – Hardcourage

27. Mount Kimbie – Cold Spring Faultless Youth

19. Tyler – Wolf

18. Toro Y Moi – Anything in Return

17. AlunaGeorge – Body Music

16. Danny Brown – Old

14. A$AP Rocky – LongLiveA$AP

13. R Kelly – Black Panties

Here is our Top 10, the real must-haves:

10. Kanye West – Yeezus

9. Jessy Lanza – Pull My Hair Back

8. Earl – Doris

7. James Blake – Overgrown

6. The Strokes – Comedown Machine

5. Pusha T – My Name is My Name

4. DJ Rashad – Double Cup

3. Ryan Hemsworth – Guilt Trips

2. Disclosure – Settle

1. ……………………………………………. NOTHING WAS THE SAME

Nice work from the Arctic Monkeys with their ‘AM’ project this year.  We heard it was good, but we didn’t listen to it.

Nothing Action Bronson released could be classified as an album, so we regrettably couldn’t put him on the list.

And as for Eminem, Justin Timberlake and Tinie Tempah; whilst popular, their efforts were so poor this year, they were disregarded entirely.

Come back to us January 1st for our ‘Albums of 2014′ list.
