Global Gathering is widely regarded as the UK’s number 1 Dance and Electronic music festival and its not hard to see why. On the short hand, if you closed your eyes you could be at fairground with the finest electronic soundtrack available accompanied with food you cant find down at your local Tesco’s. However extensively, Global Gathering prides itself on the notion that it appeals to everybody and still hold the attention of the hardcore music lovers who count on GG as one of the best festival of the year. Assembled by connoisseurs in Electronica you will find the best in house, bass, d’n’b, and trance scattered around the massive airfield in the middle of stratford-upon-mystery.
The stages this year were more varied than ever before with 12 enormous areas carefully captured in the pictures above. Following last year, each tent was slightly more specific to certain festival goers causing a buzz which you could definitely feel in the air!
The main stage did exactly what you would expect. It raked in the numbers as Chase and Status headlined the Saturday and finished with a Rage Against the Machine tribute ..just because they could really..
The UKF and metropolis stages had the high energy dubstep and drum’n’bass that you would expect from such artists like Nero and Andy C. Whilst the Rinse and Electric stage’s gave us more of the melodic rhythms alongside the usual heavy basslines. Annie Mac Plastician and P money gave an all out performance by going through the different eras of dub, bass, grime and funky. A nice way to set the tone for the weekend.
Sunday daytime gave host to the likes of Disclosure, Redlight and Jackmaster. Who played from sunrise to sunset with help from Mosa, and the Hessle Audio family (who we are big fans of here at ATB.) The soul, funk and bass house was enough to get people steppin’ from the early hours of breaking dawn and as Mid-afternoon came we was blessed with Shy fx playing a nostaglic jungle and drum and bass tribute – a memorable moment.
As soon as the night came the bass got heavier with the sounds of Jamie Jones, who brang the vibes even though his set was cut short due to a technical calamity that left anxious ravers cold and confused for the best part of 20mins.
We must say the funniest part of the saturday had to be watching a police officer bungie jump at 4 in the morning, still a very strange experience. Our favourite set award however has to be awarded to Eats Everything for giving the full funking experience in bass house that would have blown the socks off a dead man! Until the next festival we will still be revelling in the Global experience – recalling memories of the classic campsite banter… !
