Following a release from Disclosure’s label ‘Method Records’, south London producer Lxury returns with the fun sounding ‘Playground‘ available via dance-pop label Greco- Roman.
The EP features crunchy sounding drums against pitched vocal samples and live sounding instruments, as tracks ‘Company’ and ‘Raid’ both include panpipes used as piano chords, which give the EP its signature sound. Elements such as the bouncy fast paced tom toms found on ‘Raid’ and childlike ‘La la la’ vocal in ‘Playground’ make this a vibrant and fun – sounding EP, But the real surprise comes from closing track ‘Permanent Power’ as it takes a step back from the rest of the EP whilst still retaining common elements. An acid – like bass line kicks in during the half way point of the song, making this track distinctly different yet the most diverse moment on the EP.
The ‘Playground’ EP is a truly exciting collection of sounds, the half-time drums found in the first portion of opener ‘Playground’ distracts from the rest of the EP which otherwise is a coherent release. Lxury has proven to have a knack for creating otherworldly soundscapes which will sound right at home being played this summer.
The Playground EP is available now via iTunes here, you can stream the title track in it’s entirety below.
