Since the double drop of cult classics Beautiful Pimp and Beautiful Pimp II, we’ve been hooked to the sounds of eccentrically gifted Atlanta rapper Rome Fortune. His distinctive ability to transition through genres – jumping from ATL rap to experimental electronica and back again – characterised his anticipated 2016 debut album Jerome Raheem Fortune, and since then the Fools Gold affiliated artists colourful output has crafted a sound inimitably unique to his own.
Although rappers from New York and LA have traditionally had a stronghold on US hip-hop, the Atlanta scene has been on the rise in recent years, with Fortune’s unique output as credible as anyone coming out the ATL and proven by both his audio and visual output, with the latter a regular topic of discussion due to it’s unpredictable but credibly curated nature.
Having regularly worked with producer Lava Dome since the beginning, many of the rappers standout moments have come from his countless collaborations, having teamed up with the likes of Kaytranada, Toro Y Moi, Four Tet and IloveMakonnen earning him a diehard fanbase, with most recent offering – the seriously smooth yet hypnotising ‘Fun Time’ with Sango giving fans a stark reminder of his talents (listen below).
Having been steady leakin’ tracks off the anticipated Beautiful Pimp 3 tape – most recently with the seriously catchy ‘Freaks’ dropping on Colors, the enigmatic MC is returning to London for a headline show at East London’s Birthdays – his first UK show of 2018 which will also see talented ‘Slocal’ artist It’s Nate warm things up.
