Billie Black is a favourite of ours going back a few years, though she’s been quiet on the scene for a little while.
Her music has drawn comparisons to Banks, Jessie Ware and Jorja Smith, though her work pre-dates a lot of the output of her peers. Tipped as “Vogue’s woman of the moment”, at just 19, Billie Black was signed to Warner Chappell Publishing, following this she released two critically acclaimed EPs on her own label, hitting millions of streams on Spotify and each reaching 180,000 plays on YouTube. If this is not enough to contend with, Billie Black has also released material with MuraMasa and supported Jack Garratt on tour.
We first fell in love after the soulful and incredibly smooth “I Don’t Need Another Lover”. The new single is vintage Billie, with a number of wider, jazzier influences thrown in for good measure.
“It’s about passion and desire. Letting your heart lead your head and not the other way round. Pursuing a love that you know isn’t good for you but that you can’t seem to let go. About learning to be vulnerable and finding a certain strength in that”.
