Fresh off the success of international anthem ‘Sugarcane’, Ghanaian talent Camidoh today returns with new single ‘Kaba’.
Touching on themes surrounding love and the need to keep a love interest satisfied before it’s too late, ‘Kaba’ see’s Camidoh discuss the complexities surrounding love and dating in 2022, switching between his native tongue Ewe and English over a typically smooth and feelgood beat that we’ve become accustomed with since his emergence on to the scene in 2018.
It follows the recent remix of his 2021 single ‘Sugarcane’, featuring King Promise, Mayorkun and Darkoo. One of the biggest Afrobeats releases so far in 2022, it has racked up over 75 million TikTok creations due to the #sugarcanechallenge and a further 18 million streams, making its way to #3 in the Official UK Afrobeats charts, such is the remix and original’s popularity, with the former also amassing over 5 million streams since its release.
Camidoh also had a chance to perform Kaba, as well as Sugarcane for an intimate crowd at his London show at The Standard last week, in partnership with Native Magazine, which proceeded performances at Afro Nation Portugal and Ghana Party In The Park, as well as Afro Jam in Amsterdam, capping off a busy but successful start to the summer for the Ghanaian.
“So I’m from the Volta region in Ghana and my language is Ewe, and in my language Kaba means fast,” Camidoh explains. “When I was making this record I was trying to have a writing camp for myself & just wanted to spend time writing and feeling vibes. He continues: “Then the hook came to me Kaba.. Kaba.. Even if I look in my archives on IG I’ll find the video there where I was messing around and the vibe came to me and that’s how I built the song. It talks about a lady who doesn’t only want love, but also wants money and comfort, and I let her know that I know she wants these things and I’m going to give it to her, and she’s letting me know that I need to do it fast!”
Noted for his cloying vocals, transporting lyrics and majestic stage performance, Camidoh is among an outstanding crop of young innovators leading Ghana’s pop revival. Already amassing a number of 3Music Awards and Ghana Music Awards nominations, he is an artist firmly in the ascendancy.
Away from music – last year he also launched his Charity initiative ’Save The Kids With Camidoh’ in Accra – to help raise funds to help single mothers who are unable to pay hospital bills, much like his own upbringing, he wants to use his platform to help others and raise money for Ghanaian mothers wherever possible.
Proudly flying the flag for Ghana and continuing the momentum, ‘Kaba’ is another fine offering and a perfect track for the summer from an artist firmly in the ascendancy. The K
