The Berlin-Based Producer Shares a Stunning and Varied New Project
Born in Asia before relocating to Berlin, songwriter and producer Liam Mour has an incredible talent for bringing global elements to his stunning electronic compositions. Working out of world famous Funkhaus studios in Berlin, where he picks up creative tips from the likes of Nils Frahm, he’s just dropped his stunning new EP ‘Dreaming of a Better Place’.
The project is a beautiful journey through all the nuances of electronic music. There’s hints of Four Tet and Bonobo in his use of stringed instrumentation, juxtaposed against a heavier electronic drum pattern. The first two tracks on the project reflect a more danceable side to his production, before the final tracks delve into the realms of ambient nourishment. The lead single and title track from the EP, is a real treat. A gorgeous, Massive Attack-esque piece of electronica with uplifting string arrangements and a rare use of live drums. Speaking on the project, Liam states:
“For me, Dreaming Of A Better Place is like a movie in which the unexpected takes you on a journey to your conscience. You will be thrown off course unpredictably, and it is not clear until the end whether this is really happening or if it’s just a dream. It doesn’t matter either, because the music would be the same in any of those realities.
Dreaming of a better place is the title track of the EP, for which I was allowed to record with incredibly talented musicians in studio 1 of Funkhaus Berlin. It all started with a guitar riff that I recorded last summer. It put me in a meditation that made me dream. I’ve heard and seen the entire track before I even made it and only had to write the score for the individual instruments.”
