Faye Donna Francis has released her latest single “This House No Home”, which is taken from her forthcoming EP which is due to come out March 2023. The single acts as her second release to date, and was written in the midst of the first Covid-19 lockdowns. “This House No Home” stands as a strikingly intimate personal statement – a message of trench to those who need it and a slice of songwriting that demonstrates a maturity that far belies Francis’ level of experience.
Exploring a Jazz RnB style that stops your mind with its jazz club vocals, reverb-like and multi-layered harmonics, Francis is backed by a restrained percussive rhythm. Francis sings about eating disorders, before climaxing with the chorus with “This house, this house, no home/This house now on his own/This house lost its nerve a long time ago”, while Hyperdub-indebted vocal effects round out the track, the sound of the aching memories of the house’s very walls wailing out in pain.
“This House No Home” by Faye Donna Francis is out now on all streaming platforms.
