Gala Festival announces full, all-star line up for 2022 edition [NEWS]

By AboutToBlow @AboutToBlowBlog · On January 27, 2022

Following a hugely successful return last year (our review here), GALA Festival announces the full wave of artists set to play their sixth installment across the June Bank Holiday weekend (Thursday 2nd to Saturday 4th).

Returning to Peckham Rye Park, the weekender will build on the success of 2021’s sell-out, and marking a new chapter for the festival, Thursday will pay special attention to live music and bands. Presented by Brilliant Corners’ Giant Steps and South London collective Born N Bread, Swedish contemporary soul four-piece Little Dragon will headline the line-up which now also includes Shabaka Hutchings’ jazz group Sons Of Kemet, Mercury nominated Nubya Garcia and Moses Boyd’s new project Binker and Moses. Fearless selector Hunee, much loved NTS-host Anu and Do!! You!! Boss Charlie Bones have also been added to the billing. They join the previously announced line-up including rave pioneer A Guy Called Gerald, drum & bass trailblazer Goldie and revered soul group Children of Zeus.

GALA’s more traditional format resumes on Friday, welcoming universally celebrated selector DJ Harvey for his GALA debut. Partners Worldwide FM will showcase boss Gilles Peterson, returning favourite Dan Shake, as well as the inimitable Awesome Tapes. Legendary Japanese DJ and producer, Soichi Terada and one of Lisbon institution Lux’s longest serving residents Yen Sung are further notable new additions, alongside the likes of Gerd Janson, Job Jobse, Move D and Shanti Celeste who featured in the first wave of announcements. Whilst Refuge Worldwide also return to Peckham Rye Park hosting London favourites Amaliah, NIKS and daytimers affiliates Riva & Saachi.

Part of the festival’s ever-growing family, GALA welcomes back long-term collaborators Rhythm Section, Rye Wax and Horse Meat Disco for the final session on Saturday. With a focus on world class selectors and the best of queer club culture, Homoelectric’s Luke Una and Jamie Bull, London favourite Artwork, boogie legends Leroy Burgess and Saving Coco, Detroit native Marcellus Pitmman, supreme selector Palms Trax and the prolific Roman Flugel have been announced to join Jeremy Underground, Paula Tape, DJ Tennis and more.

New for 2022, the revered Charlie Bones will broadcast his much-loved Do!! You!! Radio show live from the festival site across the full three days (alongside his Thursday DJ set).

Returning to the ultimate city festival sanctuary of Peckham Rye Park, GALA is a safe and inclusive space where music comes first. GALA will also again welcome and raise money for the Southwark Day Centre for Asylum Seekers, with more community and inclusivity initiatives to follow.
