I’ve never been to Ibiza before but after Saturdays Galantis gig I feel like i’ve just come back. The EDM dance duo put on by far one of my favourite concerts of the past two years. From the selection to the light show to the production it was all so well put together and executed to perfection, these boys weren’t messing around.
If you’re a friend of mine you’ll know how I feel about the Brixton O2 Academy and this show further cemented my thoughts on this venue being my favourite concert venue in London. It’s perfect for Galantis and the way in which the ceiling of the academy gives the impression you’re outside added to the escapism and elation that Galantis provide the soundtrack too. You wouldn’t be far off in thinking you were at an EDM festival abroad to be honest and the two combined made for one hell of a show. Dropping crowd pleasers from the start and fan favourites including the hugely commercially successful ‘Run Away’ and ‘No Money’ as well as remixes of recent top 40 hits the audience lapped it up.
As a music journalist and somewhat of an observer I often sit back at these types of events and tend to observe how others react to the music being presented. The audience for Galantis this past Saturday didn’t stop bouncing and the look of pure joy on many an audience member face was something that was totally infectious.
I hadn’t seen Galantis perfect live before but I most definitely will be scrolling the web for the next one. The boys done good, very good.
