Gentlemans Dub Club – ‘Dubtopia’ (Album Preview)
‘We rented a studio out for a whole week and just jammed. That’s actually where we found the name – Dubtopia.’ – Jonny – GDC
Tomorrow sees ‘Dubtopia’ from Gentleman’s Dub Club released on Easy Star Records, their 2nd release on the American label and their 5th album in some eight years in total. Having just returned from an extended tour across Europe, we caught their show at Troxy in London earlier this year in March to see exactly what all the hype was about.
‘When we walked into this venue, we were just knocked back! This venue is hot, it’s like stepping back into the 1940’s.’ – Jonny
Playing to a record crowd of over 2000 on an industrial strength – used only once before in the UK – Dolby sound system, these guys blew the roof off. With a set-list encompassing nods to the past, windows into the future and even guest appearances from Parly B and Lady Chan, the show left the crowd fueled with sensation beyond satisfaction, demanding an encore and extending the frenzy.
‘The Gentleman run a tight ship. When they approached us saying they had a new album we assumed the usual process. They turned round and said ‘no, it’s done, it’s mixed, we got the art.’ - Lem Oppenheimer – Easy Star Records
As you can see, the energy brought by the group, which has become one of their trademark characteristics over the years when performing, seems to be more prominent than ever. It’s no surprise that GDC boast an amazing pedigree when it comes to the festival circuit, playing Glastonbury, Secret Garden party, Outlook and more. Keep a sharp eye out on where you can catch them this summer. You have our guarantee that you’ll not be disappointed.
Check out the track below – ‘Dancing In The Breeze’ off the new album. The full release will be available to download tomorrow so don’t fuck about and grab the rest of what is a truly original slice of attitude-infused, groove-filled dub.
