Getting To Know: BANKS

Over the past few years the R&B scene has found itself heavily saturated by the likes of The Weeknd who in fairness, has had little in the way of competition as a solo artist in a depleted market. It appears the genre has received a welcome boost over the past few months with the emergence of California’s BANKS, who we’ve conveniently just developed a new girl crush on. Los Angeles based, this singer songwriter produces the kind of alternative r’n’b electronic sounds you can completely zone out too, that kind of stuff you put on whilst winding down after a big night out or a stressful day.


Innocently reflective but a moody, deep and honest lyrical lead about all things love and romance, her tracks are those that make you have a sit down and have a good old think.

She also produces beautiful videos to accompany that beauty of a voice too. And yep, we’re going to say sexy too. 



Her latest EP titled ‘London’ (below) is out now on Harvest Records and was (unsurprisingly) recorded & produced in the capital city. Most notably there’s an almighty collaborative track with Lil Silva & Jamie Woon titled ‘This Is What It Feels Like’ alongside productions with TEED, SOHN and Tim Anderson. Snakehips also released a free download of their brilliant refix of Warm Waters, raising Banks profile even higher a few months back. 



Already being featured as one of Zane Lowe’s “Next Hype” Radio 1 artists way back at the start of 2013 with ‘Before I Ever Met You’, ‘Work’ air time from Annie Mac and interviews with Dazed Digital, I can only predict massive things happening for this female; a ton of remixes, even more collaborations and even better productions.
