Its common knowledge that Hollywood Horror has a trend. Every year a film will appear with a ‘buzz’, a renewed and self-proclaimed tag as “the hottest horror of the year” or more predictably, “the scariest film of all time”. We had this with the release of Gore Verbinski’s ‘The Ring’ in 2002, from this hollywood snapped up the rights to every J-Horror out there, which spurned a plethora of remakes (The Grudge, One Miss Call, The Eye etc). Fast forward to 2009 and it would seem the latest phenomenom would be the notion of ‘the third kind’, or paranormal activity.
Following the release of the credulous yet sping-tingling shocker ‘The Fourth Kind’ (based on true archive footage? Its doubtful…) the end of November will see the release of ‘Paranormal Activity’. It seems the methods applied to create scare’s at present require a ‘true story’ tag, with last years ‘The strangers’ followed by previously mentioned the fourth kind everything we are now seeing is based on fact, or indeed real footage, and Paranormal Activity is now showing us footage of the first screening of the film to show us what it did to its test audience. Having said all this the film looks incredibly effective, one definitly to look out for.
