South London drill talent Kwengface has unveiled new single ‘10 Years’.
Taking a step away from the peak-time, high-octane bangers he is known for, ‘10 Years’ sees Kwengface in reflective mood, with the Peckham mainstay looking back on his ten years on the roads and what he has achieved in that time. Shot between London and New York, the accompanying official video juxtaposes his trap beginnings with the luxurious lifestyle he now leads – perfectly capturing the theme of the track in the process.
“The reason I like ‘10 Years’ the most, the day before the shoot I’d just come back to London from performing a Bugzy Malone show in Manchester and the day after the shoot I’ve got a flight to New York,” Kwengface explains. “I had so little energy for the shoot but it doesn’t show in the final video. It shows me flexing in London but it also adds the vlog-style, more organic content in New York. It shows a lot about me, without showing too much. The video gave a little insight into my trip to NYC.
He continues: “The song itself, I feel like it’s deep: it’s been 10 years (probably longer) since I’ve been on the roads experiencing certain things and this song shows that after 10 years, I’m still here breathing and thriving, but there’s been elevation. With this I wanted fans to see that I’m always working, whether it’s in the studio in london, if I’m chilling with Carns Hill (one of my favourite producers) at his house or with the mandem, I’m still working. I can go overseas but I’m still working. This is the last video that my bro Skatty has been in since my friends have now gone to jail. With this upcoming project, I’m trying to let people know that I’m more than just a drill artist, I’ve got more range to show.”
‘10 Years’ follows on from Kwengface’s recent double-single ‘Runtz / Oh My’, which already has over 875,000 streams and has drawn support from TRENCH, Complex UK and GRM Daily amongst others. All three tracks will feature on his forthcoming project, with more details soon to be revealed.
Much loved for his uncompromising, in-your-face bars, Kwengface is best known as being a member of Peckham Boys, the South East London collective pushing the boundaries of drill. He has released a steady stream of acclaimed tracks over the past couple of years, including collaborations with the likes of Backroad Gee and Swarmz, culminating in the release of his acclaimed debut album YPB: Tha Come Up, an LP that has racked up an impressive 20 million combined audio streams and 8 million combined video views.
Going from strength to strength over the last couple of years, his debut Daily Duppy was the #1 trending video in the UK for ten days, his Fumez The Engineer ‘Plugged In’ session went viral on TikTok early last year and remains one of the most reactive ‘Plugged In’ session to date, while he even got a shout-out from Ed Sheeran on the radio and by Skepta during his own ‘Plugged In’ performance. More recently, he became the first UK artist to deliver a freestyle performance for New York platform On The Radar in January, while he is set to link up with Ed Sheeran again on an upcoming Fumez The Engineer track, as his streaming numbers continue to grow consistently.
Bringing a different energy, ‘10 Years’ showcases Kwengface’s versatility as a rapper and reiterates why he is one of the best in the game.
