It’s got a pulse, yes, I think it’s coming back round…Hip-Hop you’re alive and well. There seems to be a surge of new talent breathing life back into the forever commercially dying (Hip-Hop) scene here in the U.K. but Lskins’ new LP is performing the Heimlich on it.
The 22 year old rapper from North London went from freestyling at school to penning serious lyrics after his basketball career fell short due to numerous injuries. After taking those ‘mess-around-house-party’ cyphers to the next level, L naturally turned to his old friend ‘Flyo’ who has been finessing the art of his producing since he was 15. With an organic relationship already established it’s no wonder their work naturally compliments one another.
The Brainstorming Project is the follow up to the duos previous 4-track EP, The Loud Pack. After a year between the two releases, ‘Must Be The Drugs’ brings you seamlessly back to present day. $kins shows us straight off the bat he’s been working on his craft, from his last drop, with a flow that’s synchronised melodically to the G-funk inspired beat. This introduction give’s you a flavour of what’s to come throughout with Flyo creating the atmosphere filled with reminisce from our younger years.
As your mind wanders through the hazey landscape of Flyo’s instrumentals L$kins narrates his mind set from a matured perspective. In the song ‘Concerned’ his frustration where, “These days it’s either Drake or Kendrick, flows your amending”, shows us his self-acknowledgment of crafting your own original work…which we believe is the reason the scene keeps passing out on us.
To be honest, we could go on and on about what’s brilliant about this piece of work. Why he reflects on certain topics? Or how something so new and unknown seems so familiar? Etc. etc. etc. But, the project speaks for itself. Both Lskins and FLYO deliver some of the nicest and smoothest Hip-hop we’ve heard in a minute. So enough reading and just give it a listen…we promise you won’t be disappointed.
