Tuesday night shows can be somewhat of a chore. In order for me to actually head down to one, generally it has to entice me with the prospect of either a free bar, or outstanding music. This one only had the latter, as my online banking regretted to inform me.
I’ve been waiting a while to catch The Manor live. A few months ago their manager dropped me a demo CD claiming that these guys are London’s answer to The Streets. Normally when managers drop this kind of spiel I tend to roll my eyes, but it has to be said I can see where he was coming from. An outstanding feature of all The Manor’s work is their relate-able, laddish lyrics. Nowadays with Grime dominating the UK Scene it’s rare we come across artists able to inject a dose of humor into their work.
That said, something that struck me about their show is the sheer variety. Basing their sound on UK Hip Hop, The Manor also extended their show to rapping over garage and house beats. Making the event, a pretty lively affair.
Can’t recommend The Manor’s new mixtape ‘Dont Do What We Did’ enough. Especially if you’re a football fan.. Patrick Riviera is a favourite.
