It’s safe to say that most people associate halloween with casual vandalism and living in fear of the next comical genius that decides to throw eggs from the window of their Ford KA while peeling down the high street. It’s not all doom, gloom and rubber masks however, on the 28th of October you’ll be able to purchase ‘Truths’ from Maribou State – a four tracks release to calm you down while you scrub the egg whites off your favorite Air Max and reflect on your ghoulish weekend past.
Yes, the London based duo are back with their fourth release on Southern Fried records in half the number of years. For those of you that are expecting another dose of that trademark sound, you will not be disappointed. Maribou State are known for the attitude their tracks emit, part of this is through choosing the right vocalists to collaborate with.
This time around they’ve teamed up with two artists that are worth a listen in their own rights. The first is Nubiya Brandon. Known for her vocal works on Dubstep tracks with the likes of Scott Harmon, Nubiya’s tones seem to move effortlessly through the mix-down in ‘Hollow Groove’ – a track that radiates warmth through it’s abstract percussions and haunting vocals.
Next up is Jimi Nxir, an American talent who’s most recent track ‘Thundher’ is well worth a listen – see the link above. His vocals on ‘Truth’ – the title track for the EP are perfectly matched for this release, incorporating both the style of the EP as a whole as well as stamping his own mark on the track through his own method of creating dreamlike moods through distorted vocals.
Although not featuring any vocal artists, the other two tracks – ‘Blue Sunday’ & ‘Moon Circles’ – represent the feeling of this release while also helping to add some variation and contrast. Although these tracks aren’t designed to be played out on a club level, they certainly carry their own justifications.
