Exciting Nigerian rap talent ODUMODUBLVCK becomes the first artist signed to the newly launched NATIVE Records, also unveiling brand-new single ‘Picanto’.
Digging deep into the emotional psyche, ‘Picanto’ sees the Nigerian musical talent team up with street rap legend Zlatan and rising star Ecko Miles to deliver a brooding, haunting single detailing the real-life struggles of a modern day young hustler. It follows on from the success of his #1 single ‘Dog Eat Dog’, and marks his first release and artist signed to NATIVE Records, the music division of NATIVE Networks, having signed an exclusive worldwide joint venture partnership with Def Jam Recordings in a groundbreaking deal for the multi-platform media company, based between Nigeria and the UK.
Speaking on the track, ODUMODU says: “When you see someone on the road in a Picanto, you may think you can bully them or push them off the road, but this song is for the people out there who come from humble beginnings, but have a solid mind. We will conquer, despite what you may think of us. Our time is now.”
Born in Lagos and raised in Abuja, ODUMODUBLVCK is one of the most exciting voices to emerge from the Nigerian capital in the last decade. Whilst being a pioneering voice of drill music in Nigeria and recently co-signed by UK grime legend Skepta, he operates under a self-defined genre he calls ‘Kporoko rhythms’: a form of hip-hop that takes influences from grime, Fela Kuti’s Afrobeat, and progressive R&B. This musical core informs his deep, thoughtful lyricism which takes centre stage on every track and stage he graces.
After teasing the track for more than six months, ODUMODUBLVCK fans finally get an official release for the epic ‘Picanto’.
