Now this is a release we’re really excited about, from a truly experimental record label. ‘The Stairs EP’ Features 3 incredibly talented up and coming curators of bass & techno, each with their own individual style. First up we have ‘Peeper’ by Revaux, a track which is manages to fuse soundscapes from Juke, Jungle and breaks for a seriously punchy outcome.
Revaux employs dark and haunting pads with a creepy vocal sample, the effect of which is a truly haunting build up to the half time, and seriously techy drop. The track then teases us with some incredible percussive intricacies, followed by a shattering amen break. Secondly we have ‘Indulge Me’ by Elabor8. Straight out of Paleman’s set list, this one is an absolute hurter. Similarly to the first track, Elabor8 gets the tension right with a haunting and heavily reverbed vocal sample which can’t prepare you for the massive 808 kicks and heavily panned breaks. Fans of the swamp81 sound are going to want this one.
Next up Pender Road brings us the first traditional slice of 4×4 Techno with the experimental and intricate ‘Rusty Gate’. Plenty of texture and depth to this one, as we are lowly guided to a long and sombre breakdown with the plucky arpeggio moving and piercing through the mixdown. A really interesting piece of techno here for all the production headz to admire.
