At the tail end of last year Resident Advisor decided to launch a project that got us all here a little excited. Having brought us a collection of quality explorations during 2013 everyone’s favorite go-to clubbing directory have teamed up with wireless hi-fi speakers SONOS to bring a four-part film series that traces the roots of some of our favourite producer’s in electronic music.
Whilst we may spend our favourite moments savouring those nights in the presence of our favourite DJ’s, the beauty of the Origins series is that we are given a rare insight into where it all started for some of our cherished beat makers. Within this exploration Chris Liebing, Eats Everything, Magda & Matthew Dear will be playing host to the house of SONOS, showing us what inspired them, the components that helped make the dream a reality & also a playlist of tunes that personally stood out along the way.

The second episode in the series has just dropped & shines a welcome light on one of our favourite producers, the inimitable Eats Everything. Undoubtedly one of the biggest personalities in the scene, Dan Pearce takes us home to the serene surroundings of Wotton Under Edge as he shows us everything from his family house where DJ-ing began, to the venue where he attended his very first rave at the tender age of 14.
The heartwarming aspects of a series like this is based entirely in its intention to inspire. Eat’s talks at length about overcoming the struggles & realisation of having to almost begin a career away from music & after giving it one last crack at production his big break came about. Having been one month away from giving up on his dream there aren’t many who could have given us a better story, & who better to compile an utterly excellent kitchen playlist then the Bristolian himself.
It’s fitting that even through recollecting his own musical origins, I can recall so many great moments in my life over recent years through Dan Pearce’s music also. Having spent my University years in Nottingham, most weekends were spent within the confines of the legendary Stealth club, where Entrance Song would suitably resonate across room 1 during some of the best ever Dollop nights during 2011/2012. The nostalgic attachment of those memories to that song are utterly priceless & come flooding back each & every time it’s spun even today.
The underlying narrative to Origins is identifying those landmark moments in our childhood & adolescence that has shaped the type of music we now find ourselves listening to today. Being exposed to R&B from such a young age took my journey naturally took me through the realms of garage & house music which continues to form the basis of the daily soundtrack that shapes my life today.
