The Alt-Pop Maverick Returns with a Stunning Project
UK-Based songwriter Quarry returns today with some of his most affecting & potent work to date in the form of his ‘Is That What You Call Love’ EP. Full of nuanced alt-pop anthems & hints to different genres and styles, it’s a project that showcases an artist with a varied songwriting skillset.
“It’s anger, hurt, fear, calm, acceptance, kindness, rationalisation, forgiveness, determination, bitterness, and a hundred other things that question means to me, ‘Is That What You Call Love?” – Quarry
Quarry (real name Ash Carvell) has made a name for himself as an artist who’s able to convey uncomfortable and often complex social situations through the vehicle of his unique brand of alt-pop. The EP includes moments of upbeat, disco-leaning funk, as well as sombre and emotive pieces. Speaking on the track, Quarry states:
“With this mixtape I’m holding out real pieces of my heart and hoping people see themselves in it. I’m not the only one that feels these things, and I want the ones that get it to know that as well! I want them to feel understood.
Like all my favourite songs I can still feel it in my stomach when I listen back. It still hits me the same way as when I wrote it, and it makes me want to reach out and lay my heart on the table. To me, all these songs feel like looking you dead in the eye as I expose my unprotected heart to a dangerous world. “ – Quarry
