For the next instalment in our preview series we turn our attention to up and coming producer ‘Kalyde‘. Once half of duo AZ & TOR, Rich Main has developed a new solo sound that has now featured on BBC Radio 1 through the mediums of Monki, Darius Syrossian and Gerd. With guest mixes and recent sets for Fabric in addition to releases on Kerry Chandlers MadTech, he’s certainly been busy. Here Richard pushes on with a new EP – ‘Good Life’ – via Skint Records, accompanied by South London Ordnance remix.
The title track ‘Good Life’ kicks off the EP and features vocalist Youth, Kalyde treats us to his typically raw production style here with lo-fi weighty rhythms, dubby stab sequences, tension building strings and a meandering bass groove running alongside Youth’s infectiously catchy vocal stylings. Lauded Techno producer South London Ordnance steps up to rework ‘Good Life’ next and reshapes the original number into a chuggy, ever unfolding number fuelled by arpeggio bass, soaring pad lines and his signature robust rhythmic style.
Last up to complete the package is ‘Last Seven’ which sees Kalyde fly solo to deliver an ever-blossoming seven minute composition gradually unfolding with vacillating vocal murmurs and modulating synth stabs wandering around upfront drums and an acid tinged bass hook in the tracks latter stages.
Kalyde’s ‘Good Life’ was available now on Skint Records. Check the link below to take a listen. Also find below Rich’s mix for Fabric, well worth a listen.
